The Prop Firm News Trading Rule, Firm by Firm, in UK Time
FTMO, FundedNext, MyFundedFutures and Tradeify news trading rules read off their own pages, with the restricted windows on a UK clock.
A prop firm news trading rule limits what a trader may do in the minutes around a scheduled economic release. FTMO restricts order execution two minutes either side of selected releases on funded accounts; FundedNext counts funded-account news-window profit at 40%; MyFundedFutures requires positions flat two minutes before Tier 1 data on two funded account types; Tradeify sets no rule.
This desk read four firms’ own published rules on 15 October 2026 and set them side by side, with the windows on a UK clock.
This is an evergreen explainer; the figures are as published on that date, and any firm can change them.
What does a prop firm news trading rule restrict?
One of four things. An execution ban stops orders filling inside a window. A flat requirement says no position may be open at all. A profit adjustment lets the trade happen and discounts what it earned. Or there is no rule, and slippage is the only penalty. The difference matters most for a stop-loss set hours earlier, which can still fill inside a window.
The news trading rule at four firms, side by side
Every cell is from the firm’s own page, read on 15 October 2026.
| Firm (page read) | Window | What is restricted | Accounts it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| FTMO (FAQ, undated) | 2 minutes before and after selected releases | Any order execution, including stop-loss, take-profit and pending orders, on symbols containing the affected currency | All accounts except Swing and the Challenge or Verification phase |
| FundedNext (general rules) | 5 minutes before and after a listed high-impact event tied to the symbol | Nothing is blocked; profit in the window counts at 40%, losses at 100% | FundedNext Accounts and Stellar Instant; not Stellar 1-Step, 2-Step or Lite challenge phases |
| MyFundedFutures (help article, 31 August 2026) | 2 minutes before and after Tier 1 data | No positions or orders, including limit orders | Rapid Sim Funded and Pro Sim Funded; Tier 1 permitted on evaluations and Builder Plans |
| Tradeify (help article, 12 August 2026) | None | No news rule | All accounts |
FTMO scopes its rule by currency: during US non-farm payrolls, its own example allows EURGBP or AUDNZD but not opening or closing USDJPY or GBPUSD in the window. A violation “may result in termination” of an FTMO Account or FTMO Instant Account; restricted events are marked in its Economic Calendar.
MyFundedFutures’ Tier 1 list is FOMC meetings, FOMC minutes, the Employment Report and CPI; for news at 8:30, close by 8:28:00 and reopen after 8:32:00.
What the table does not show
FundedNext’s page opens by saying news trading is allowed “with no restrictions on when or how you trade”. The next line applies the 40% split. Only the second decides what a funded trader is paid. This site’s FundedNext review covers its wider terms.
MyFundedFutures’ page is stricter than its Tier 1 section: it prohibits straddles and strangles exploiting news bursts on all releases, and its standard protocols ask for no open positions or orders two minutes either side of any data release, without saying how that sits beside the evaluation permission.
Tradeify’s absence of a rule comes with warnings: beware of slippage, and never use the Daily Loss Limit as a stop-loss. A news spike is where a daily loss limit gets breached by a fill nobody priced. Its funded accounts also carry a microscalping rule: over 50% of trades, and over 50% of profit, must come from trades held longer than 10 seconds.
When is the news window in UK time?
The next US Employment Situation release is scheduled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics for 6 November 2026 at 08:30. UK clocks go back on 25 October 2026, per GOV.UK, and US daylight saving ends on 1 November, per NIST. Reading the BLS time as US Eastern, 08:30 is 13:30 in London; that is this desk’s arithmetic.
On that arithmetic, FTMO’s window runs 13:28 to 13:32 UK time, MyFundedFutures wants Tier 1-restricted accounts flat by 13:28:00, and FundedNext’s window, if the release is on its list, runs 13:25 to 13:35. The firms’ own calendars are the authority.
The Bank of England’s remaining 2026 MPC announcements are Thursday 5 November and Thursday 17 December. FTMO says restricted events are marked in its Economic Calendar.
A stop-loss firing inside FTMO’s window
A GBPUSD position on an FTMO Account, opened in the morning with a stop-loss, may stay open through payrolls. If price reaches that stop at 13:31 UK time on 6 November, it fills inside the window, and FTMO counts any order execution, stop-losses included. In the Challenge phase the same fill is outside the rule. This illustrates mechanics, not how to trade.
Prop firm news trading rule: common questions
What is news trading in a prop challenge?
Opening, closing or holding positions around a scheduled economic release, such as US payrolls, CPI or an FOMC decision, on a prop firm’s evaluation or funded account. The firms treat those minutes differently: of the four pages this desk read, FTMO and MyFundedFutures restrict activity in a window, FundedNext reduces the profit it counts, and Tradeify sets no rule.
Why do some prop firms restrict news trading?
The firms’ own pages point to execution. MyFundedFutures says news trading is not simulated 1:1 with live markets, which is why it is not allowed on its restricted accounts. Tradeify, which permits it, warns that orders may execute far from expected prices and that its system protection may not be effective during extreme volatility. Both concern fills a simulated account cannot price reliably.
Do news trading permissions apply to both evaluation and funded accounts?
Usually not equally. FTMO’s restriction does not apply in the Challenge or Verification phase, or to Swing accounts. FundedNext’s 40% split excludes its Stellar 1-Step, 2-Step and Lite challenge phases. MyFundedFutures permits Tier 1 trading on all evaluations and Builder Plans but not on Rapid Sim Funded or Pro Sim Funded. Tradeify’s microscalping rule applies on funded accounts only.
Can I trade news?
At all four firms read here, in some form and on some accounts. Tradeify sets no news rule. FundedNext allows it but counts news-window profit at 40% on its funded and Stellar Instant accounts. MyFundedFutures allows Tier 1 trading in evaluations. FTMO allows it in the Challenge, Verification and Swing accounts, and elsewhere lets a position opened more than two minutes earlier stay open.
The rule is in the account terms
Each page is a condition on a paid evaluation or a simulated funded account, and each firm can change it; read the version for the account bought, on the day it is bought. The minimum trading days rule works the same way: one name, different definitions. Trading around news is where losses arrive fastest, and nothing here is financial advice.
